Job Description

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current certification in BCLS.
• Minimum of three (3) years recent nursing experience.
• Demonstrated commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care.
• Regular attendance at work is imperative; therefore, all applicants will have to demonstrate a good attendance record to be considered for this position.
In addition, applicants will have skill and experience in the following elements of nursing practice:
• Two (2) years experience in a Nurse Practitioner role.
• Experience in Addictions Medicine, and in Opioid Replacement Therapy an asset
• Completion of, or willingness to complete the CAMH Buprenorphine-Assisted Treatment of Opioid Dependence course.
• Coordination of care with community-based providers.
• Developing evidence-based protocol.
• Practicing as a care partner on interdisciplinary teams..
• Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

• Reporting to the Manager of the MHAP program.
• The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is health care provider who works in collaboration with referring physicians, other members of the interdisciplinary team and patients/families to provide evidence-informed and integrated care to the Mental Health and Addiction Program’s Outpatient Withdrawal Service clients.
• The NP's practice is grounded in professional, ethical and legal standards using advanced nursing knowledge, skill, experience, clinical reasoning, problem solving and critical thinking. The NP builds and expands on established RN competencies with an expanded scope of practice based on legislative authority to autonomously perform the controlled acts.
• The NP's fundamental competencies include clinical practice, leadership, research, consultation, collaboration and referral.
• All duties and responsibilities of the NP will follow the Standards of Practice developed by the College of Nurses of Ontario, the RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, the philosophy and values of nursing services and the policies of the health centre..
• The Nurse Practitioner will provide service for patients experiencing  both Acute and Chronic substance use related health conditions.  This role is primarily concerned with prevention, evaluation, treatment  and recovery of persons with the disease of addictions and other substance use related health conditions.
• Other duties as assigned.
